Just like in DKC3, Donkey Kong Country 2 also has a whole bunch of exploitable cheats so that you can make the game either easier or harder depending on your mood! The majority of the cheats are pulled off by starting a new file, and pressing down on the mode select screen until you enable the Sound Test and Cheat Mode options. Sound Test will allow you to listen to all of the game's music, and Cheat Mode will be used to enter some game modifying effects such as making the game more difficult or giving the ability to start the game with more lives.

Start the game with 50 lives - Y A Select A Down Left A Down.
Hard Mode (No DK Barrels in levels) - B A Right Right A Left A X

If you want to cheat and get all 75 Kremcoins, you need to enter the first level (Pirate Panic) and then immediately enter the Captain's Cabin. Without doing anything in there, head right back out, and proceed to the right. Do not collect the first two bananas that you see, but collect the first bunch of bananas that you encounter above some barrels. After that head back to the Captain's Cabin, again jumping over those two bananas along the way. This time collect the red balloon inside, and then proceed back out, once again jumping over the first two bananas, and then collect the bunch of bananas above the barrels again. Finally, head back to the Captain's Cabin one last time, you will now be able to collect a Kremcoin that will put your total up to 75. This trick works regardless of if you have started a new file, or if you execute it part way through the game!
